September 24th marked the 10th Anniversary of our annual Commitment to Community Day. 400+ global associates lent their support, strength, and talents volunteering for various charitable & non-profit organizations throughout Belgium, China, India, Japan, Luxembourg, Singapore & the Pacific Rim, and the USA. This year's event marked the second year in a row managing through the COVID pandemic, protecting health and safety while helping others.
Associates from Aubange, Belgium, and Windhof, Luxembourg, volunteered at ten different organizations, including La Petite Plante and Fondation Kraizbierg Domain Schumansbongert, two centers helping individuals with disabilities. They also supported local schools Ecole Fondamentale Libre and School Haut-Fays by painting and doing light construction. Associates also volunteered at Mairie de Cutry, a green space within the community. Other organizations Michelman supported included Planète J - Asbl Maison de Jeunes d'Aubange, Wallonie Plus Propore, Refuge pour Animaux ALDPA, Terra Coop, and ORT Region Müllerthal.
Our associates from Michelman China volunteered with HandsOn Shanghai to help brighten the day for students of the Sunshine Home. The organization's vision is to build a healthy, vibrant, and resilient community in which everyone participates by fostering a culture of volunteering. Through bowling, our associates brought smiles and friendship to the children. In addition, the bowling activity allowed Michelman associates and the Sunshine Home students to develop close relationships and become friends.
Our India team volunteered at Amcha Ghar (Our Home) for underprivileged children and supported children from ZP Primary School Trimbak, Satamwadi. The team donated essential items to the children of both organizations, and our associates performed needed painting throughout Amcha Ghar.
Associates from Michelman Asia Pacific participated in the Keeping Singapore Clean Movement by removing waste from beaches and parks with the Public Hygiene Council (PHC). This organization's mission is to create a culture where everyone cleans up after themselves and disposes of waste correctly as acts of graciousness and consideration for others.
Finally, associates from our Americas region volunteered at organizations throughout Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky, including Stepping Stones Ohio, Redwood, People Working Cooperatively, YMCA Camp Ernst, Gorman Heritage Farm, The Point Arc, Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank, Brick Gardens, and the Freestore Foodbank. In addition, our remote employees from all over the USA donated their time throughout California, Wisconsin, and North Carolina.
The initiative was created by Michelman's current President & CEO, Steve Shifman, and was inspired by our core value of Giving. He recently explained his pride in the organization, "I am amazed to see how the scope of these volunteer efforts has grown. This relatively small initiative that began ten years ago has grown into a worldwide endeavor with hundreds of associates planning to volunteer at over 25 organizations. Our associates continue to exemplify the value of Giving even throughout COVID, and this commitment to our annual day of service is truly inspiring."
